Calvary Hospital Care Units
Intensive Care Unit / High Dependency Unit / Coronary Care Unit
CONTRACT VALUE: $11.4M
This exciting project included a 1,400m2 extension the existing Xavier Building of Calvary Hospital and included a ten (10) bed Intensive Care Unit / High Dependency Unit and a six (6) bed Coronary Care Unit.
This extension is directly adjacent to the existing Calvary Hospital ICU/CCU, and strategic management was needed to be developed to enable the existing ICU/CCU to remain fully operational until the new facility was ready to be occupied.
Upon occupation the existing facility (500m2) was decommissioned and refurbished for associated Clinical and administrative tasks. Calvary Health Care ACT engaged IQon to deliver this project from concept briefing through to final occupation of the new facility. The service therefore being provided by IQon is the complete Project and Construction Management of the project.
This project is a significant component in the overall service delivery of health services in the ACT, and has had involvement of the highest levels within ACT Health as well as Calvary Health Care.
The initial business case for this project took over 4 years and extensive stakeholder management was needed along with many detailed value management sessions and briefings / consultative sessions with Calvary executives, staff, clinical staff, ICU intensivists as well as peer reviews from The Canberra Hospital staff to ensure the Models of Care and the facility would demonstrate a uniform approach to patient care for the ACT community. Greenstar principles are included with in principle rating of 4 stars.
The Building has been designed to be ‘future proof’ with provision for a further 1,400m2 incorporated into the building structure. The project was completed within budget and on program in October 2010.
