The works consisted of the construction phase services for the Stage 2 Level 6 and Level 4 expansion. The project is located within the Canberra Hospital precinct in Garran ACT.

The project is a two-stage development with Separable Portion 1 being the upwards extension of Level 6 CCU Ward and Cath Lab works and Separable Portion 2 consisting existing Theatre 8 Refurbishment works on level 4. Considering that the extension was to be constructed onto a fully operational hospital building, it was paramount for the IQon team to ensure minimal or no impact to any existing hospital activities or safety to any staff, patients or public. It was also vital to ensure that the comfort and visual amenity for the patients and staff were not impacted during the construction phase hence requiring careful consideration for the major plant and equipment relocations and how the building was to remain watertight throughout the structural extension of stage 1.

IQon was very conscious of the timing and completion to allow the Hospital to take advantage of the slow schedule during the Dec – Feb periods for completion of SP1.

SP1 component of the project was completed within a very tight timeframe of 9 months ensuring that the works were completed ahead of Christmas 2018 and therefore allowing final client commissioning and relocation into the new space during January 2019. The works were completed on time and to the total satisfaction of the client and users.

SP2 component which included refurbishment of existing theatre and associated services upgrade was completed in April 2019 to the total satisfaction of the client and users of the space.
