Mental Health Ward 12B Upgrade
Canberra Hospital, Building 3.
CONTRACT VALUE: $5.8M
IQon had been engaged under a PMA agreement to undertake a refurbishment of the Ward12B Mental Health low dependency unit located at the Canberra Hospital, Building 3.
The project consisted of 10 new patient bedrooms with provision of 14 beds, new staff station, administration facility, amenities and new courtyard areas made up of 1500m² GFA.
The project had significant challenges with design and reduced construction timeframe, but none more than working within a live environment. The construction site was surrounded with active wards that had to remain operational during the 9-month construction period. Consideration with planning and coordination in and around the construction site meant constant communication with stakeholders and user groups was paramount to the success of the works.
