CONTRACT VALUE: $6.0M

On this project, IQon undertook the project management of the design documentation, construction and post construction services for the new nature Discovery Centre.

Constructed more than 30 years ago, the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve required extensive reconstruction work following the devastating bushfires in January 2003. These reconstruction works did not follow the ‘typical construction’ project and were a unique blend of civil, building and landscaping works within a very sensitive environment. IQon team faced significant challenges including the collaborative management of the many stakeholders, relocation of animals, as well as working in a remote environmentally sensitive location.

Key construction and civil features of the project included a new entry building, extensive pathways, five wetlands ponds, veterinary centre, animal pens, an Australian bushland experience walk, extensive bridges, interpretative signage, a wetlands weir and extensive replanting and landscaping throughout.

Achievements
This project received three awards – the MBA National Award for Environmental and Energy Building Efficiency – Civil 2008; the MBA ACT Division 2008 Civil Environmental Management Award and the Keep Australia Beautiful Council 2008 Sustainable Buildings and Gardens (Commercial/Government) Award for the manner in which this project was delivered within the very sensitive ecological environment.
